IT Service tailored for YOU!

Freelance Tech is here to provide effective, efficient and affordable Information & Technology services to the Central Highlands area. Locally owned and run with over 25 years experience in the IT industry.

I started out working like a robot in a busy computer store for just on 8 years, until under new management the store was collapsing and so was my health. After gaining my health back I spent some time working 3-6 month contracts for several companies at a mine site, for a MSP not located in Emerald and lastly an Electrician where I fell sick again.

After my next regeneration cycle I went out on my own as a freelance technician because one of the companies I used to do work for kept calling me

There is more than one way to solve any problem. The needs of an individual person is different to the needs of a small business which is different to a large business or corporate client.
Really depends on the type of business or person as well. Rather than a square peg through a round hole approach for everyone.

Prevention is better than A cure

Is your computer healthy? It is amazing, especially in rural areas how fast your computers and other appliances can collect dust from the air and slowly choke to death. Overheating is a major cause of failures in a range of technology, preventative maintenance once every 6-12 months will in most cases extend the life span of your hardware.
Is your data protected?  With the ever changing world of online threats. Do you have a proper rotation of backup drives? redundant backups? offsite backup? and offline backup? should everything be 100% in the cloud?

Is your security prepared for the rapidly changing landscape of online threats.

This laptop was about 12-18 months old, first time cleaned out. Depending on age, thermal pads and thermal putty needs to be replaced before the CPU fails, not after it fails.

CUSTOM BUILT PC’s

Custom Built machines to suit your budget and purpose.

  • Workstations for personal or business use, built to each customers budget and requirements.

  • I’ve done warranty repairs for some of Australia’s current largest PC pre-builders as well as the ones from the distant past and have seen a diverse range or problems often caused by too many zip ties, cables being too tight, premature fan failure. Damage from transit is my favorite so i’m happy to save a customer and a company time and freight cost diagnosing or solving a problem.

Microsoldering & board repair

Microsoldering & board repair

That is mostly what my blog has become, examples of some of the board repairs over the past 6 years.
It really depends on what is actually wrong with the device.
Not all things are fixable, for example: a failed CPU from extreme overheating.

Liquid damage in particular is very dependent on how much liquid, how extensive is the damage.
If someone attempts to clean liquid damage with something like WD40 and then reconnects power you can guarantee that will cause more damage spread out over a larger area and make my life more difficult or the device uneconomical to repair. Please Don’t

Games Consoles and Small Electronics

Games Consoles and Small Electronics

  • Games Console repairs old and new. Depends on the nature of the fault, if it’s fixable I will fix it.
I’ve done board repair for X-Box series X and HDMI replacement on the range of current X-Box and Play station consoles.

  • Tablets & Phones repair, I don’t keep things like batteries or screens in stock generally.
Mostly just the parts to repair dead main boards to facilitate data recovery etc.

  • Small Electronics like DVD players and baby monitors, depends on the nature of the fault.

  • Televisions need to be handled a specific way, breaks very easily in transport, can not be laying down, must be standing.

Sometimes hardware is not worth fixing or costs more than new hardware to fix. I have endeavored to make my business as close to zero waste as possible by breaking down electronics waste into it’s raw materials, Turn the plastic/rubber into 3D Printing Filament, separate the metals and hand them in for recycling and deposit batteries into collection points where large scale e-waste processors will deal with them.

Some devices are so easily fixed it is a shame they are typically discarded or worth far more than they might seem as spare parts don't throw it away, ask Freelance Tech, at the very least I can help you make sure it is properly disposed of.
or refurbished and sold to someone that needs a PC for a reasonable price.
